Cavity map extractor for 3D texturing! (Substance Designer)
I've received a lot of requests to make my cavity map generator available as a separate download. So grab your Substance Designer cavity map generator in the link below.
I used to bake cavity maps out of Zbrush, but found it slow. I even tried baking high to low out of Substance Painter, but I never got the resolution or frequencies of details I wanted.
Displacement maps generally will contain all the information you need to extract masks of practically any frequency. This method... it's quicker, as displacement maps will always be exported + you can extract multiple masks at the same time.
Any method that saves me time in production is an absolute must!
I use this method for personal projects + live production assets. I'm biased, but I've not found any other method that comes close to this method.
Useful for all types of texturing, digi-doubles, creatures, characters - very useful for adding texture variation!
Use these masks for any texturing or rendering package: The Foundry Mari, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Maya, Houdini, Blender.
